2021-2022 Student OFFICERS for God's Bods
President
Andrew Nielsen
Since joining the center last year, I have been able to grow in my faith more than I ever thought possible and I was also able to meet incredible people through gods’ bods. Both this year and last year I have witness to some incredible things like men’s group, delectus, and every gods’ bods meeting I have attended. During these events I have been I able to show I side of myself that I do not normally share in my day-to-day life, the part of me that loves god and wants to be enriched in all his glory, a person that likes to explore the concepts of the faith and wants to explain the great mysterious of the Lord Jesus Christ. Some of the best advice I have received through my life being a catholic is from one of my youth group teachers back in high school while I was being confirmed, he said even in his eighties he is constantly in confirmation, always exploring the faith and questioning it, because questioning the faith is how we as a church can grow closer to god. If I am to be elected to presidency, I pledge to do everything I can to help people explore the faith and grow closer to god. That means being early to every meeting, making myself available to my fellow students as much as I can, and to always listen to my fellow students when they have suggestions on whether something could be done better or if I am doing something in a manner that they disagree with. I do not want this job to be above anybody or have special powers over anyone, I want this job for the responsibility of helping others explore God.
If I am able to reach the presidency hoping that the quarantine be lifted and we can go back to normal, I would like to find a way to bring back the pasta night the catholic center used to do, where we read the bible and have meal it could be a Passage or just the daily readings and we can reflect on them, or a Christian movie night where we find a movie that matches up to the seasons teachings, another idea I had from previous years is if we could restart the delectus trip, I don’t actually know if that’s one of the presidents responsibilities, but I would still like to help out so the new members from this year and the next will have the opportunity to go on a great retreat, And one of the last thoughts on activities is to do more outdoor events around campus like when we played baseball, do something other students can see so they might want to join in with us, it could help draw more people in. I know not all these ideas will survive as they are right now, they will have to adapt to reality, and others might not even be done, but as the catholic centers leader I will not stop making ideas for us to do, I won’t stop taking suggestions from my peers and none of my ideas will ever be set in stone to where I do not compromise for my fellow students.
Vice President
Kade Urban
Throughout the first three semesters I have spent at Washburn, change has been nearly constant; for the most part, no semester has resembled the previous one. Despite this fact, though, one thing in my college experience has remained unabating: my appreciation for the Catholic Campus Center. Few organizations have provided me with the same level of enjoyment as the Center. Because of all my positive experiences and because I want others to have the same experience, I would like to run for Vice President. If elected, I would focus on three areas that I believe to be the most important. First, I will help create events and activities that make the center even more welcoming than it already is. I originally joined God’s Bods because of the great atmosphere I encountered during my first week at Washburn, and I want others to feel the same way. Second, I will work with the other officers to expand God’s Bods presence around campus through outward activities; an example of this is when we placed notes and bags of candy in buildings around campus. Third, I, with the other officers, will strive to plan our schedule with all God’s Bods members in mind. During my time in God’s Bods, group decision-making has always been a respected practice, and I believe it should continue. It is important for everyone to participate in crafting their social and religious journeys. The current officers have performed their duties exceptionally well, and I hope to continue that trend on into the future.
Treasurer
Eleanor Jones
“Hello, my name is Eleanor Jones, and I am running for the position of Treasurer of God’s Bods for the 2021-2022 school year. The reason why I am running for this position is because student organizations, like God’s Bods and especially God’s Bods, are crucial elements of fostering a sense of community on campus. In groups like this one, people can meet people they may not have otherwise met, and they can make friends with a wide range of other students. They can become places to escape to when the rest of the college experience gets too overwhelming, and they can offer support on a physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual level. In order for student organizations to run smoothly, a strong executive council is needed to keep affairs in order and help guide the group in a good direction.
I believe that, as Treasurer of the Washburn Catholic Campus Center, I can be one of those guiding hands. The skills that I offer to God’s Bods lie mostly in the realms of organization, public speaking, and commitment. Having debated all four years in high school and having participated twice in the Topeka Model UN in middle school, I believe that I am fully capable of presenting our group’s budget requests before the WGSA in a professional, confident manner that is becoming of a student representative. Being a personal user of detailed planners, reminder applications, and lots of desktop folders, I believe that I have the organizational skills necessary to stay on top of deadlines and complete all the tasks that are delegated to me. Lastly, if elected to the position of Treasurer, I personally commit to attending all required student executive meetings and as many regular God’s Bods meetings as my schedule permits.”
Secretary
Anthony Depner
Even though I have only been in God’s Bods for only two semesters, I really enjoy being a part of this group of people. Having this group here for me during the stressful week in school is a nice getaway from it all. Learning more about our faith and having a laugh in the process is something that is very appealing to me. As secretary, I would want to stay up to date on all God’s Bods events and meetings, as well as having my own input that I think can help make the Catholic Campus Center somewhere that people feel happy in.
